It is haracterized for containing many elements from the traditional Chinese Boxing of the 17th to 19th century. The designation Goju Ryu was created by Chojun Miyagi (1888 1953). A Kobudo Master once asked one of Miyagi's best students about the name of his Martial Arts style. But he could not give a correct answer, so he came up with the name "Half Hard Style". He
