This is a bayonet for the relatively short lived Belgian M 1848 Thouvenin 17. 5mm Percussion rifle, a "pillar breech" system firearm. This design was a fore runner of the Mini ball system, and was intended to aid the lead projectile's grip on the rifling grooves.
