We are not sure why this helmet was fitted with a smaller liner than it was designed for

with the original bluing on the barrel and magazine still very well retained

with slightly darker OD Green #3 canvas trim

Complete with 9" tall spoked walnut wheels

and the same marking is on the left side of the frame

This is a lovely example of a WWII Iron Cross First Class 1939, with a non magnetic brass core, flat design, and tapered brass pin attachment. The brass core examples are less often seen than the steel core, and were usually issued to members of the Kriegsmarine (Navy), as the brass alloy was much more resistance to the corrosion caused by ocean air. It is not maker marked, but that was not uncommon for these awards.
